President & CEO

Valerie Swisher is well known for her work in product analysis, project management, and documentation design. She started her company as a one-woman show in 1994, and has built the corporation based on dedication to developing client and contractor relationships. Today, Oak Hill serves over 70 clients in a variety of industries with more than 900 senior professionals in writing, illustration and production management.

Her clients are familiar with Val’s hands-on style. They know when they are in a tight spot, they can call on Val for the solution. A large percentage of her working day is spent talking with clients or supervising her on-the-job professionals. Val’s vast experience in the field of tech pubs enables her to bring a wealth of knowledge to every job. Need some problem-solving? There aren’t many issues associated with technical documentation or training that Val hasn’t seen—and solved—before.

Before Val started her own business, she was Manager of the Technical Course Development Program for SynOptics, Inc. (now Nortel Networks). She was also an instructional designer and technical instructor for 3Com Corporation.

Val is co-author of "The Comprehensive Guide to Computer Telephone Integration," published by CT Institute Press, and "Mastering Network Management," published by Numidia Press. Val has wide-ranging experience with internetworking, network management, local area network hardware and software, standards, and protocols, in addition to other technologies. She is a member of the Society for Technical Communication.

Val graduated Summa Cum Laude with Special Honors from Tufts University with a degree in Social Psychology and a degree in Music. She has Master's Degree coursework in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling. Val is an accomplished jazz and classical pianist and oboist, with a decade of studio work at The Juilliard School, The Manhattan School of Music, and the New England Conservatory. She has played with at least a dozen symphonic orchestras and bands.

In her non-working hours, Val loves to spend time with her two children and still spends hours playing the piano (though she sadly admits she has little time for the oboe these days).
