Serving the Needs of the Startup: Oak Hill Becomes Airgo's Trusted Partner The Client: Airgo Networks is the pioneer and worldwide leader in Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology. A breakthrough in wireless, MIMO has been adopted as the foundation for defining the new IEEE 802.11n standard for next generation Wi-Fi. Airgo is first-to-market with 802.11 a/b/g-compliant MIMO chipset, software and reference design solutions. Airgo’s True MIMO technology greatly improves the quality and convenience of the wireless experience. Startup companies are a breed apart. Startups run hot, but they run lean and close to the bone on resources. When an outsourcing firm works with a startup company, the outsourcer plays a very different role than it does with a mature corporation: it needs to be a responsive partner in building the client’s infrastructure, and it must help the client stretch its resources as far as they can possibly go. When Carl Temme, Vice President of Marketing for Airgo Networks, Inc., considered hiring an outsourcing firm for technical publications and other projects, he had the special needs of his startup company in mind. Carl selected Oak Hill Corporation for the job. “It was the scope of what Oak Hill could take on that was so appealing,” he says. “They were able to deliver a turnkey product everything from the writing, editing and illustration to the project management. Plus the price was competitive. These are really critical points to a startup firm.” Oak Hill has worked with Airgo for about a year and a half. In addition to creating technical documentation, Oak Hill built three online help systems for different platforms, and created datasheets and a CD silkscreen design. Key materials (including the help desk systems) have been updated as Airgo underwent three major releases during that time. Oak Hill has provided Airgo with additional capabilities such as customized documentation to Airgo’s customers “Creating the documents is a very complex process, but Oak Hill was able to build them with variables so customers could receive individualized documents. Oak Hill really became a resource to our customers, another service we can offer them,” Temme says. Temme explains that Oak Hill’s management engaged with Airgo very early in the process, and understood Airgo’s business model and unique requirements. “They worked with us from the beginning to solve problems and design a process that worked for us. Oak Hill has really become a close business partner, a resource we can rely on.” |
