THE OAK HILL QUEEN'S GUIDE TO SUCCESS

By Mira Wooten

I recently read a book called, "The Sweet Potato Queen's Book of Love" by Jill Conner Browne. No, I'm not reviewing the book, but in this hilarious account of a Southern woman's guide to bliss, the author states that every woman needs five men in her life. One to buy her things, one to fix her things, one to take her dancing, one who likes to talk, and of course one for extracurricular activities.

When asked recently about what makes Oak Hill successful with our clients, I started laughing because I realized I could write "The Oak Hill Queen's Guide of Success" (except Val is The Queen, so the title needs work). But you get the idea.

For Oak Hill to be successful on any project, we need five contractors on our team: a top-notch production person, a creative illustrator, a fabulous copy editor, a meticulous project manager, and of course a technically-savvy content developer. Leave out any one of these and the quality automatically drops.

BUILDING A DREAM TEAM

Not long ago I gave a talk at the Silicon Valley Chapter of STC about my Ten Tips for Being a Stellar Contractor. Internally, we call them "Rock Stars." What sets Rock Stars apart? At the meeting, contractors and managers alike agreed that stellar contractors:

  • communicate well
  • are committed
  • manage client expectations
  • use examples to explain deliverables
  • are people oriented
  • are honest
  • deliver quality
  • are positive
  • are flexible
  • stay afloat in a sea of change

When Oak Hill starts a new project with a client, we want to go in with a Dream Team. That means we have Rock Stars performing every service in our proposal, from the template to the final PDF. Our Rock Stars are committed to delivering quality content on time and on budget. They have smiles on their faces throughout the project, no matter how many twists and turns it took to reach successful completion.

For all the Rock Stars on our roster, The Oak Hill Queen's Guide to Success is dedicated to you.
